April Issue

An illustration for a story focused on black hole research involving a Wayne State University
professor who was being interviewed for the piece.

"An article co-authored by Wayne State astronomer Ed Cackett, Ph.D., is featured on the front cover of the prestigious journal Nature. The research, led by Dr. Erin Kara (University of Maryland) and involving Wayne State’s Cackett, uses "light echoes" to map the region close to a newly discovered black hole in unprecedented detail."
"Science imitates art"
The style requested for this project was based on a Star Trek Poster I created in 2014.
March Issue

An illustration for a story on Optical Tweezers.

"Perhaps the greatest impact of optical
tweezers has been in *biophysics*. Optical tweezers can be used to sort healthy cells
from infected ones, or identify those that might be cancerous. It is also possible to use
optical tweezers to measure both the minute movements of a trapped object (equivalent
to a few atoms in diameter) and similarly tiny forces.”
The breakthrough recently won the Nobel Prize in Physics
The style of this illustration was inspired by the Diana Ross illustration on the left that I created in 2018.
Sketch for this concept.
